Ferrari, a staple in the car community known for their cars usually defined by the sound, emotion and experience of combustion engines is working an their own EV. The Ferrari Luce is probably one of the most important cars in their history. A big move from their combustion engines to one of the biggest changes in the car industry in EV Technology.
Their new car given the name “Luce” translated from Italian to English as “Light” is set to be one of the most controversial car. There has been a number of rumors floating around, making it hard to tell what’s real and what’s fake. In this blog we’ve compiled the most accurate information to our knowledge. The production may vary as the car is still very much in development.
The Ferrari Luce
The Ferrari Luce is the first fully electric Ferrari model. As the world moves towards more sustainable energy, car manufacturers need to find a way to proceed to EVs without losing sight of their own values and philosophies. Officially Ferrari has said:
“This is not just an electric car. This is an electric Ferrari. The two are very different” – Ferrari
So far, officially Ferrari has revealed the powertrain, interior and the name of their EV however the exterior and shape has still not been released. Rumors circulating assume that the Luce is set to take inspiration from the Ferrari Purosangue. As Ferrari has always been linked to combustion engines however they aren’t unfamiliar with Hybrid tech and have released a few Hybrids as well in the Ferrari 296, Ferrari La Ferrari, Ferrari SF90 and recently also the Ferrari F80. The Ferrari SF90 wasn’t really accepting of the car, being the second ever Hybrid it did not face a general acceptance and many critics were first to dislike the car. Ferrari has thus promised a ‘new kind of pusle’ from the 1,000 HP powertrain.
Speed Of Luce
The first details of the Ferrari Elettrica (Now named the Ferrari Luce) was information about its powertrain. Ferrari has publicly announced that the new Ferrari Luce will come with a quad motor setup that will generate over 1,000 horsepower, have a top speed of about 200 miles per hour and will have a 0-60 of around 2.5s
Battery Details
The Ferrari Luce is said to have a range of 329 miles from a 122kWh liquid-cooled battery. It also has a maximum voltage of 880 volts.
Handling Corners
For EVs the main concern is usually the weight, coming mainly from its battery packs, motors and all the extra tech features that are usually packed into these cars. To combat the weight of almost 5,100lbs, the four motors can do torque vectoring and the rear wheels can steer upto 2 degrees. 15in Brembo brake discs are fitted to provide 0.68Gs of braking force for this machine. The active suspension coming from the previous SUV from Ferrari, the Purosangue is said to make an appearance in this car as well. This is done through lengthening the pitch of the recirculating ball screw inside the damper by 20% to better handle bumps.
Importance Of The Luce
Ferrari has a lot riding on the future of the Luce as it defines their future in the EV space. It has already delayed the development of a second electric car due to lower demand. For their EVs Luce is going to be the face of their brand going forward. Stock price is always important to any brand thus the initial reception of the car is going to be very important.
For other cars in this space it’ll also be a big sign to start developing their own EVs and take this segment a bit more serious as well. Ferrari has a lot to prove with the Luce and people will be waiting eagerly for the car they unveil.
